Why join?

UKELA is the community for anyone interested in the place where law and the environment meet. From practitioners to students, we are a group of
like-minded people working together to promote a better understanding of environmental law and its impact on the world around us. But don't just take our word for it...

"UKELA has a small but dedicated and adept staff team. Whilst the work the Trustees do is all from a charitable and non paid basis, it's always struck me how hard everyone works, to ensure that the core commitment of UKELA continues to thrive to ensure better law for the environment. the team has always been a collegiate group of people who are willing to discuss in open forum the challenges of applying environmental law. there are no egos clouding our working relations, just passion and a drive to work towards shared goals. I simply had to be involved somehow!" Warren Percival, Director at RSK Group and UKELA Chair of Trustees

"UKELA is a unique forum where all those with an interest in, expertise concerning, or a role that impacts the environment can gather to discuss how environmental law and policy can be improved. Its value is the breadth of membership and the spirit of friendly cooperation and common sense. We provide a valuable sounding board for policy makers, legislators, local government etc. There really are few other fora that provide all of this." Becky Clissmann, Counsel at Ashurst LLP and co-convenor of UKELA Climate Change and Energy Working Party

Both individuals and organisations receive a collection of benefits with balanced in person and online events and related materials. Take a look in more detail at the benefits here:

Attend our events with reduced rates

Members pay a discounted price to purchase event tickets. You must always sign in otherwise you’ll be charged a non-member rate! Some events are online only, others in-person and increasingly we are offering hybrid where practicable. Where an event has been recorded, this is emailed to those who’ve registered for the event when editing has taken place.

Access to our Networks

The breadth of membership within UKELA provides Members with the unique opportunity to connect with counterparts in different firms, chambers, in-house, academics, statutory bodies and NGOs. New for 2024 we’re hosting ‘social’ networking events every other month at locations around the UK, a chance to develop and maintain personal relationships with UKELA members. Members are entitled to join and become actively engaged with as many Working Parties - an opportunity to network with those with expertise and interest in specific areas of environmental law. Members are encouraged to join the Regional Groups (including Devolved Administrations) nearest to where you live or work, they provide an ideal way to get to know and network locally with other members.

Priority booking for our Annual Conference

The Annual Conference is a highlight of the UKELA calendar. Tickets are made available at an ‘Early Bird’ rate for Members only before they go on general release.

Subscription to our bi-monthly journal e-law

Only Members receive the bi-monthly electronic journal and have access to back issues of the publication. Elaw editions are themed, keep Members up to date on UKELA news and events, and informed about new law, hot topics and matters in practice.

Opportunity to influence environmental law

UKELA, is a unique forum where all those with an interest in, expertise concerning, or a role that impacts the environment can gather to discuss how environmental law and policy can be improved. The Working Parties, operating with a spirit of friendly cooperation and common sense, provide a valuable sounding board for policy makers, legislators and local government. Participating in consultation responses means you really can influence environmental policy and legislation - UKELA’s responses are frequently referred to in consultations showing our collective voice is heard. Be an integral part of a ‘movement’ that is not a campaigning organisation.
