Advisory opinion requests on climate change

Climate Change
Ahead of COP 29, join UKELA's Climate Change and Energy Working Party to discuss the origins, implications and key legal issues arising in these requests (online). Timings: 4 pm to 5.30 pm

In the run-up to the COP 29 in Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association Climate and Energy Working Party will host a webinar on the advisory opinion requests on climate change to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and the International Court of Justice. This session will be relevant for legal practitioners and campaigners alike. We will discuss the origins, implications, and key legal issues arising in these requests, and help you to make sense of them within their wider political contexts. Attendees will learn about how these international processes stand to impact global climate policy and advocacy efforts.

We are pleased to have Christina Voigt, a participant in each of the three processes as lead legal counsel for the IUCN's World Commission on Environmental Law, and co-chair of the Paris Agreement Compliance Committee, as our guest participant, and she will be in conversation with Anastasia Kantzelis, public international law consultant and Associate Member of 6 Pump Court Chambers.

The conversation will be introduced and moderated by Stephen Hockman KC.
